Activities include demonstrations of early 19th century crafts and Ozark agriculture; living history camps representing Nathan Boone's careers as a hunter, soldier, farmer, politician, explorer, businessman and scout; and historical interpreters to tell stories of the Boone family and their connection to the Ozarks.

Whether it was sold at market or consumed on the farm, food affected every part of daily life for farmers in early southwest Missouri. The Homestead Harvest event demonstrates how farmers harvested and processed their corn crop and how they stored fruits and vegetables for the winter. Cooking methods from that period are demonstrated, highlighting the unique cuisine of the Ozarks. This event is held at Nathan Boone Homestead State Historic Site.

Come to Nathan Boone Homestead State Historic Site where living history interpreters, representing hunters from different periods in history, display and discuss the tools, practices and traditions of hunting in America. The program features demonstrations of 19th century fiber arts. Olive Boone, Nathan's wife, cared for the home while Nathan was away on hunts. This program focuses on the skills required by frontier women to keep their families in clothes. (This portion of the program may be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.)

Facilities include: a 100-yard baffled rifle/pistol range with 20 covered booths; target sockets arranged at distances of 7, 15, 25, 50, 75 and 100 yards; bench rests and seats for shooters, with seating for spectators; paper bull's eye targets and target stands; trap and skeet; shotgun patterning range with full-size turkey targets provided; static and 3-D archery ranges. Cost: rifle/pistol range, shotgun patterning, and archery, $3/hour; skeet/trap, 25 clays, $3/person.

This 1837 log house was the home of Col. Nathan Boone, son of Daniel Boone. He was a military officer and an early developer. The house retains many of its original features, such as hand-planed moldings and walnut clapboard siding. Tours are available.

This is an 80-acre slice of the Ozarks outdoors within the city limits of Springfield. Six hiking trails provide wildlife viewing opportunities. The trails are open to foot traffic only; bicycles and motorized vehicles are not allowed. Jogging is allowed specific hours only. The Nature Center features an information desk, where visitors learn about the facility and its schedule of programs. Hunting and fishing permits are sold. The building includes a self-guided exhibit area, gift shop, 150-seat auditorium, classrooms and restrooms. The grounds include a covered picnic area and pull-through bus and RV parking. Camping, hunting and fishing are not allowed on the grounds. The Nature Center’s building is closed January 1, Thanksgiving and December 25.
