This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Pony Express. On April 3, 1860, a lone rider left on horseback from the gates of one of the nation’s most historic landmarks, the Pikes Peak Stables in St. Joseph, Missouri. Carrying saddlebags filled with our nation’s hopes and dreams, the riders traveled 2,000 miles to Sacramento, California. Check our Web site for a full schedule and locations.

  • Thursday: Buffalo Bill Look-Alike Contest, Reception and Chuck Wagon Dinner, 5 p.m.; and Sesquicentennial Banquet, 6:30 p.m.
  • Friday: Pony Express National Museum Celebration, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Chris Corbett, Pony Express Book Signing, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.;
  • Saturday: Pony Express National Museum Celebration, 8 a.m.-7:30 p.m.; Patee House Museum Pony Express Celebration, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.; Pony Express Bridle and Saddle Parade, featuring the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales, 11 a.m.; Voices of the Pony Express 1 p.m.-4 p.m.; Johnny Fry Ride, 7 p.m.; Michael Martin Murphey in concert, 8 p.m.

The two-story courthouse, built in 1873, houses the courtroom where the Ford brothers were tried for the murder of Jesse James. On the National Register of Historic Places.
