Thousand Hills State Park includes Native American rock carvings (petroglyphs) more than 1,500 years old; they are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
The park features Forest Lake, with 17 miles of shoreline. It offers a beach, a marina, watercraft rentals, a boat ramp, an accessible fishing dock, campsites, hiking and mountain biking trails, picnic areas, and cabins. The park is 2 miles west of Kirksville, off Route 6.
