Ozarks Studies Symposium at Missouri State University – West Plains

The goal of the symposium is to foster the preservation and understanding of regional culture. Multiple speakers over the course of three days present on a range of topics, with the keynote to be provided by Kimberly Harper, author of the fascinating history of con men in the Ozarks – Men of No Reputation: Robert Boatright, the Buckfoot Gang, and the Fleecing of Middle America (Univ. of Arkansas Press, 2024). Her keynote address, on September 20, will discuss the remarkable history of swindlers in the Ozarks.

During the symposium, presenters speak for 30 minutes each, including time for Q&A. Attendees are able to listen to any or all presentations. Complete descriptions of presentations, speakers and schedule will be available here. Free admission. No pre-registration required.
