The story of Missouri wine began in the mid 1800s when German settlers established the town of Hermann on the banks of the Missouri River. The settlers found the soil to be too rocky for many crops, but perfect for growing wine grapes. Nearly 60 wineries existed in the area producing more than 10,000 gallons of wine per year. Now the Hermann area is recognized as an American Viticultural Area (AVA) covering 51,200 acres through several Missouri counties, and it is a destination for those who enjoy wine and want to experience the charm of a small German river town.
What better way to taste and sample all of the wonderful varieties of wine in Hermann but on a trail! The Hermann Wine Trail meanders for 20 miles, between Hermann and New Haven. The trail is currently made up of six family-owned wineries ranging from quaint country farm settings to historic wine cellars. Visitors will experience the area’s rich history and a variety of wine styles. Open year-round, you can enjoy daily wine tastings and participate in unique trail events featuring wine and food pairings.
The six participating member wineries are: Adam Puchta Winery, Hermannhof Winery, Dierberg Star Lane, G. Husmann Wine Company, Reserve Cellars of Hermann, and Röbller Vineyard.
The Hermann Wine Trail hosts a number of events each year. Some seasonal events on the trail include:
