Boonville and Rocheport have the best of both worlds: the relaxing environment of a small town, but plenty of opportunities to explore and play. Adorable bed-and-breakfasts, outdoor activities and delicious food (and wine) are things you can expect on your getaway.
Acquaint yourself with the area by taking a walking tour of Boonville. The city has more than 400 sites and structures on the National Register of Historic Places, and the tour includes stops at 23 of the most popular historic buildings. Pick up a walking history tour brochure at the Boonville Visitors Center.
Pack your running shoes or bring along your bike and hit the trail at Katy Trail State Park. Formerly a railway corridor, the Katy Trail is now the longest developed rails-to-trails conversion in the United States. Walk, run or bike along the mostly-flat trail and enjoy the gorgeous scenery surrounding your path.
Enjoy a glass of award-winning wine at Les Bourgeois Vineyards’ beautiful A-frame building. The structure overlooks the Missouri River, providing a truly spectacular view from the winegarden patio. Live music helps create a festive atmosphere for guests to kick back and have fun.
Meet the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales at Warm Springs Ranch. The ranch is the only breeding facility for the Budweiser horses, so you’ll often see foals prancing around the barn and through the fields. Adults can sip a Budweiser brew as they tour the ranch. Tours are given April through October, and reservations are required.
Located along the Katy Trail, Meriwether Café and Bike Shop is the perfect starting point for a trail ride. The café serves simple, scratch cooking made with locally-sourced ingredients. Once you’ve refueled, rent a bike from the bike shop and take off down the trail.
Shop for unique pantry staples before you settle in for a tasty meal at Rocheport General Store. The café serves soups, salads, sandwiches, pizzas and more. On Sunday, you can start your day the best way – with brunch and mimosas. The store is in the middle of historic downtown Rocheport and is a favorite among locals.
The only thing that could compete with the delicious food at Blufftop Bistro is the magnificent, panoramic view of the Missouri River. The chef specializes in classic fare with a modern twist. Made-from-scratch breads, smoked meats and seasonal items elevate each meal.
Recharge for the night in a welcoming, comfortable room in Hotel Frederick. Built in 1905, the building has been well-preserved to maintain its charm. Peruse the library or game collection for a relaxing evening activity, or rent a tandem bike from the on-site rental shop and explore the Katy Trail.
Escape to a peaceful and private retreat at Mount Nebo Inn. Take a Missouri River Cruise, provided by the Mount Nebo Guide Service, and immerse yourself in the beautiful scenery. Wine and beer tasting cruises are available. Also, the inn is pet friendly if you’re traveling with your furry companion.
Transformed from a school into a quaint bed-and-breakfast, this three-story brick building has been updated to include modern amenities while also maintaining its old-school appeal. Each room has a private bathroom, electric fireplace and Wi-Fi. Each morning, a multi-course breakfast is served – the cream cheese stuffed French Toast is a guest favorite.
