Castlewood State Park straddles the lush valley of the Meramec River and is open for day-use activities such as hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing and picnicking. It is considered one of the best mountain biking destinations in the St. Louis area.
Due to safety concerns, swimming and wading in the Meramec River are strictly prohibited within the park. Kiefer Creek is a good alternative for visitors who want to cool off.
