John Joseph “Black Jack” Pershing (1860-1948) commanded the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I and became the highest-ranking military officer in U.S. history. He lived in this home from 1866-1882, when he left for West Point.

Tours of the house and exhibits in the site’s two museums interpret Pershing’s life. Check the website for tour times and fees.
