St Louis Elks Lodge #9 is hosting the Kayak with a Vet IV on Saturday September 16 at Creve Couer Lake Memorial Park Tremayne Shelter from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be an opening ceremony from 11 a.m.-11:30 a.m. (National Anthem by NFL St Louis Cardinals HoF Jackie Smith, Pledge of Allegiance, Moment of Silence, Prayer Invocation, followed by TRR – STL taking a special veteran into the water in kayaks). We are anticipating upwards of 500 attendees and more.
Team River Runner- STL (TRR) is an independent, nonprofit, national organization, that gives service members (veterans and active duty) and their families/friends an opportunity to find health, healing and new challenges through paddling sports. We have adaptive equipment to assist participants with physical disabilities.
This event is free for any Veterans, Military Personnel, 1st Responders and their immediate families to attend. We have 40 organizations to promote their services to those in need. We will also have some First Responders on hand in the parking lot and in the water on behalf of the Cites of Maryland Heights & Pattonville – fire trucks with oversized flags hung from the ladders, police officers and a few other surprises for our attending guests.
Our Elks Lodge will also be promoting a few community programs: Veteran’s Leather (deer hides processed into full & partial finger gloves for disabled Veterans), Youth Americanism Essay Contest & the Missouri Elks Association Mobile Dental Unit, which is an RV retrofitted to provide dental services in rural areas throughout Missouri for low income individuals (see attached link).
