Shaw Nature Reserve is located in the rolling terrain along the Meramec River just 30 minutes west of St. Louis. Established by the Missouri Botanical Garden in 1925, the Nature Reserve features extensive tracts of restored tallgrass prairie, glades, wetlands, savannas, and woodlands. It includes 17 miles of hiking trails.
The Nature Explore Classroom and Sense of Wonder Woodland encourage self-exploration for all visitors, young and old! The 5-acre Whitmire Wildflower Garden is a must-see for garden enthusiasts and those just getting started with native plant gardening.
Open year-round, 7-days a week, but is closed on some major holidays. Regular hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with extended hours throughout spring, summer, and fall. Last entry is 30-minutes before posted closing time. Visit our website for more information.
