The Wyatt Earp Park was built to honor the Legendary Beginnings of Wyatt Earp. Wyatt followed his family to Lamar in 1869. He was appointed Lamar’s First Constable on November 26, 1869, following his father’s (Nicholas Earp’s) resignation.

In early 1870, Wyatt married Urilla Sutherland. Unfortunately, within the year, Urilla passed. Wyatt Earp’s brief time in Lamar set the stage for who he would become, one of America’s frontier legends.

The Wyatt Earp Park was built to honor his “Legendary Beginnings” and features a statue of Wyatt and his wife, Urilla (Sutherland) Earp, and a music pavilion for outdoor concerts and community gatherings on the beautiful Lamar Square.
